BSF jawan Suryakant Das, aged 38, was found hanging in his rented flat in the Shulangguri area of New Town, Kolkata. He was originally from Odisha and had moved into the locality about a month ago. The incident came to light on Monday morning when his family arrived and discovered the body.
Before the incident, Das reportedly sent a suicide note via WhatsApp to his family members. In the note, he mentioned mental stress as the reason for his decision. Following the information, police from Eco Park police station and BSF officials reached the location and took charge of the situation.
The body was sent for postmortem examination. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an investigation. BSF officials have also started internal procedures as per protocol.
